IDTA  Associate (Ballet)

I started dancing at the age of 3 years old studying RAD Ballet, IDTA / ISTD Tap and Modern.

My love of dance and singing started from an early age and I appeared in many local pantomimes, musicals and operas as a child.

Knowing how precarious a career in performing arts can be, I completed 3 A levels and due to some personal experiences, decided to train as a Nurse, qualifying first as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) and later as a District Nurse (DN Diploma). I was dedicated and ambitious and by the age of 25 was a Nursing Sister. During my three years in Bath when I completed my RGN training I was also lucky enough to dance at the Theatre Royal Bath in the musicals Oklahoma and Pyjama Game.

I am immensely grateful to all the people who made this possible for me, especially my tutors who worked my placements around the productions!

My passion for Dance and Performance was very much still alive and after completing my RGN training I decided to pursue dance again and the possibility of Ballet Teacher Training. So after a day nursing I would attend classes and study for my Dance Teaching Qualifications which I completed over 3 years.

For the first 7 years of the Dance School when I was building the school into the success it is today, I was also working full-time as a Nurse. After my 2nd child was born in 2001 I made the decision to leave my nursing career and concentrate on the Dance School. A decision I have never regretted and proof that if you have a passion, the drive and ambition you really must follow your heart.

The rest, as they say, is history! Now in its 28th year the school is working at full capacity, employing staff and achieving great successes.

Hard work and dedication (and a few tears along the way) does pay off and I hope I can inspire the young people in my care to aim for the stars! I feel it is a real privilege to work with children and young adults and hope they will all look back on their time at the school with much fondness.

One student wrote in a card to me a few years ago, “You have given me the best memories of my childhood” and I couldn’t ask for anything more.

I intend to continue to work hard and maintain a positive and vibrant school for many years to come.
